Rema 1000 has announced a partnership with Vallø Castle in Køge in Denmark for sourcing fresh organic eggs.
The initiative is part of the retailer's 'ground-to-table' strategy that focuses on offering unique, locally produced goods.
Earlier, the retailer joined forces with Gram Castle in Southern Jutland, to source products for its stores across the country. Presently, the retailer offers more than 30 products from Gram Castle.
Anders René Jensen, purchasing and marketing director at REMA 1000, said, "Sales of our goods from Gram Castle are growing explosively. Our customers love goods that are [produced in Denmark] and therefore have a short journey from land to the table.
"Following the same principle, we are now expanding with the new partnership with Vallø Castle."
Fresh Products
The eggs from Vallø Castle will be packed and delivered to Rema 1000 within 24 hours after they are laid.
It will then be distributed to stores across Denmark the following day to ensure that the products are fresh. The eggs will also bear the date on which it was laid, the retailer added.
