Italian meat producer Rigamonti, part of Brazil’s JBS meat processing group, has acquired Brianza Salumi, a producer and distributor of low-salt cured meats.
The acquisition will place Rigamonti at the top of the cured meat market in the country, with an estimated turnover of about €300 million.
Brianza Salumi, founded by the Vismara family in 1978, specialises in the production and distribution of organic and low-salt cured ham.
The company reported a turnover of €14 million in 2018 and exported its products to 23 countries.
The current management team, headed by founders Claudio and Giovanni Vismara, will continue to lead the company.
'A Global Leader'
Based in Montanga in Valtellina, Rigamonti is a global leader in the production of bresaola, an air-dried, salted beef variant.
Commenting on the deal, Rigamonti CEO Claudio Palladi pointed out that the company is currently in a healthy position, with zero debt, just five years on from its restructuring.
The meat producer, which exports 9% of its products to Europe, aims to achieve double-digit growth and target the USA and Eastern Asian markets.
According to Palladi, the first nine months of 2019 have been promising and the company expects production to surpass 8,000 tonnes this year.
