Sales of fresh produce in Spain registered a 10% growth during the first week of September, compared to an average week, according to figures from the Spanish Association of Distributors, Self-Services and Supermarkets (Asedas).
As reported by lavanguardia.com, the challenge for retailers is to provide an appropriate response to a rapidly raising demand. According to Asedas, the best solution for retailers is to implement an 'efficient and flexible' logistics network, 'capable of changing routes in a matter of hours, to stock each supermarket'.
Ignacio García Magarzo, General Director of Asedas, said that 'this increase in demand, which happened in a short time frame, demands the concentrated effort of the 260,000 employees that work everyday to keep Asedas' supermarkets well stocked'.
Approximately 70% of Spanish distributors are members of Asedas, and the association features over 500 logistic platforms with over 50,000 employees dedicated to stock their 18,500 existing points of sale.
