UK retailer Morrisons is predicting a rise in sales of barbecue staples such as burgers, sausages and marinated chicken this week as Britain enjoys the warm weather.
Adam Moreton, Morrisons Head of Demand Planning for Fresh Food commented, “We’re expecting the nation to take advantage of the warm spell and head out into the garden. We are already seeing big rises in sales of traditional barbecue favorites.”
The retail giant is predicting it will make and sell 1.7 million fresh British beef burgers and 2.6 million sausages.
Since the warm spell started, Morrisons noted that sales of bagged salad are up by 45 per cent and potato salad sales are up by 25 per cent. Sales of coleslaw have also increased by 32 per cent with Morrisons selling 500,000 tubs last week.
Morrisons’ bakery, Rathbones will also increase production and bake 1.6 million burger buns.
