The winners of the 2015 Seafood Prix d'Elite have been announced, with Norway's Salmon Brands taking the coveted 'Best New Retail Product' award for its ready-to-eat Salmaraw sashimi kit.
The judges noted that this product was 'particularly well conceived and executed from start to finish'.
The judges also gave out five additional awards in the categories Originality, Health & Nutrition, Convenience, Retail Packaging, and Seafood Product Line. The winners were chosen from a group of 37 finalists from 11 countries.
All winning products will be displayed at Hall 11, stand 2501 at Seafood Expo Global and Seafood Processing Global which runs in Brussels until 23 April.
The Prix d'Elite special award for Originality also went to Salmon Brands, for its Salmaraw brand.
Marine Harvest was awarded with the Prix d'Elite special award for Health and Nutrition for its Duo Norvégien au Four oven ready cod and salmon combo.
The Prix d'Elite special award for Connvenience went to the Big Prawn Company of Melton Constable for its Seafood Rarebit, a seafood take on a classic Welsh dish. The Big Prawn Company also received the special award for Retail Packaging for its 2 Crayfish Thermidor Bakes.
Rockabill Shellfish Limited was presented with the Prix d'Elite special award for Seafood Product Line for its 'Something fishy' line of seafood-infused butters.
The 2015 judges panel included Debby Verheyen, Seafood Product Expert at Delhaize Supermarkets in Belgium; Thibault Faucon, Supply Chain Manager at Sodexo in Luxemburg; Filip Keersmaekers, Seafood Category Manager for Makro & Metro Cash & carry in Belgium; Ian Nottage, Chef Director with Reynold’s Catering Supply in the UK; and Dominique Fenech, National Director of Seafood Purchasing for Monoprix in France
