Spanish fruit and vegetable production reached a value of €16,600 million in 2015, an increase of 14 per cent on the previous year, according to research by Observatorio Sectorial DBK.
Vegetables accounted for 52 per cent of total sales, to be worth €8,686 million, while fruit made up the remaining 48 per cent of sales, seeing growth of 12 per cent to €7,900 million.
The value of Spain’s fresh produce exports also rose by 12 per cent to €11,820 million last year.
Other EU countries are the main destinations for Spain’s fruit and veg, receiving 92 per cent of fruit exports and 94 per cent of vegetables. Germany, France and United Kingdom are the main consumers in both categories.
Meanwhile, imports of fresh produce to Spain grew by 12 per cent to €1,875 million.
