UK retailer Tesco is launching indoor tomato plants in its stores, aimed at people living in urban areas without gardens.
The product has been naturally developed over the last five years to create a plant that is compact, productive, and can survive indoors.
The miniature plant comes with around 10 tomatoes growing on it, but can produce up to 150 small tomatoes.
Plant Power
“We hope this remarkable little powerhouse of a plant will help all those people eager to grow their own vegetables but don’t have a garden or adequate growing space to do so," said Phoebe Burgess, herb and vegetable buyer at Tesco.
“It really is the gift that keeps on giving and will help bring not only an abundance of delicious tasting tomatoes but a lot of fun in producing one of the UK’s favourite salad foods."
Growing Demand
Tesco says that the popularity of fresh growing herbs and vegetable plants has been growing in the UK, with sales increasing by nearly 10% last year.
The mini tomato plant goes on sale this week in over 300 Tesco stores in the UK, and will be priced at £4.
