Tesco has released details of a new ‘Fair for Farmers Guarantee’ on its fresh milk. Under the terms of the guarantee, all milk sold will be 100 per cent British and all information will be provided regarding the fair price paid by Tesco to its dairy farmers.
The retailer sources its milk from the Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group (TSDG), which is made up of 600 dairy farmers around Britain. Tesco created the group in 2007, in a bid to secure fair pricing for farmers and to ensure that they benefit from a price above production cost.
Tesco said that it consistently pays farmers above cost price, despite price fluctuations within stores, to ensure that famers maintain a steady income.
James Stephen, TSDG dairy farmer and committee chairman, said, “For over eight years, I have worked with Tesco, who continue to pay British dairy farmers above the cost of production price for our milk, so that we can focus on the things that matter most — caring for our cows and producing high-quality milk.”
