Turkish fruit exports have increased 72 per cent in volume and 2 per cent in value this year, according to statistics released by the Union of Exporters of the Mediterranean, as reported by the Green Med Journal website.
However, according to the reported statistics, Turkish vegetable exports have fallen 35 per cent.
Despite citrus exports falling 38 per cent, apples continue to enjoy a bumper year, with a growth of 208 per cent against the same period in 2014, according to the report. They now represent 75 per cent of the total fruit exports from Turkey, followed by strawberries. Despite an increase of 73 per cent in volume, the pomegranate is only sixth in the ranking.
According to the Green Med Journal, the top three importer countries of Turkish fresh produce are: Iraq (66 per cent), Russia (13 per cent) and Syria (12 per cent).
