The UK Dairy Council announced on Wednesday that it has elected Ash Amirahmadi of Arla UK as its chairman.
The senior VP of sales at Danish dairy company Arla's UK branch, he will succeed Sandy Wilkie of Müller Milk and Ingredients, who held the post for the last seven years.
Amirahmadi commented on his new position: "It is a privilege to take on the role of chairman of this organisation which has a proud record in communicating the many benefits of dairy.
“Milk and dairy play such an important role in the British diet – not only are they some of the most nutritious foods on the supermarket shelves, but they also continue to be one of the most popular.
He said it was essential that the Dairy Council continues to advocate the "outstanding nutritional contribution" of dairy to a healthy diet, despite "negative and ill-informed" criticism.
The non-profit provides scientific information on the role of dairy goods in maintaining a well-balanced diet to health professionals, the media, industry and consumers.
Amirahmadi started working for Arla UK in 2004 in commercial roles, before joining the management team in 2010. He was responsible for cultivating the company's relationship with farmers and building its corporate reputation. He has now taken on the role of growing Arla's business in the UK.
Arla was named the world's fourth largest dairy firm in June, processing more than 14 million tonnes of dairy products in 2015.
