Approximately a year after launching in Spain, Zespri's SunGold kiwis have proven to be a success.
As informed by financialfood.es, the company, which reported volumes of 115.2 million kilos in the country in 2015, is expecting to increase increase production by 56 per cent this year, to reach an estimated total of 180 million kilos.
Enrique Guio, General Director of Zespri in Spain, stated that he estimates that the overall kiwi consumption in Spain has "grown 50 per cent, thanks to the arrival of Zespri's SunGold variety".
Production of the fruit in Europe takes place mostly in France and Italy, although the company is currently working to develop production facilities in other countries as well.
