German discount chain Lidl has opened a new supermarket in Palermo, taking its total number of stores in Italy to 600.

The new store is also the retailer's seventh branch in the city of Palermo, and its 44th in Sicily.

Lidl Italia has invested over €10 million in the Sicilian capital, as part of a project that also included urban redevelopment and regeneration projects.

The newest store has a sales area of about 1,400 square meters. It was constructed using environmentally-friendly materials and is powered entirely by renewable sources, including a 55 kW photovoltaic panel.

Lidl offers more than 2,000 references, including a wide selection of local traditional products. In order to better respond to regional tastes and habits, Lidl has established a collaboration with selected local suppliers.
