Lidl, Nielsen Publish Study On 'Christmas-Related Stress'

Research firm Nielsen and Lidl Germany have together published a study on the subject of Christmas-related stress. A total of 20,800 people across 25 European countries and the United States took part in the study.

The study looked into activities such as Christmas shopping, decorating, buying presents and cooking and investigated how stressful these activities were experienced to be. On average, 46% of the women and 37% of the men surveyed indicated they find Christmas a stressful time.

Christmas preparations and planning were still found to be done mostly by women. Of the women taking part in the study, 66% indicated they were organising the Christmas feast, 75% buying the gifts and 78% taking care of the Christmas decorations, including dressing the tree.

The lowest level of Christmas-related stress, 28%, was experienced in in the south-east of Europe but the highest, of 67% in the Czech Republic.

"As an international retail company, active in 30 countries, we decided to ask customers around the world how they celebrate Christmas: what is important to them, what makes them feel stressed, and where they could use some help", explained Jan Bock, Head of Purchasing at Lidl Germany.
