Salaisons Dijonnaises, a dry sausage made from Charolais beef, from Burgundy, was named the winner of the overall M.A.D.E. Excellence Award at the inaugural edition of the M.A.D.E. trade show, formerly known as MDD Expo, in Paris last week.
The M.A.D.E. Awards, hosted at the event, saw a total of 130 entries, which were then whittled down to seven nominees across different categories: Truffières de Rabasse, BloomUp, Lucien Georgelin, Olives & Co., Dalla Costa Alimentare, LCC SARL, and the overall winner, Salaisons Dijonnaises.
ESM was also in attendance, and it had the chance to speak to Sébastian Gillet, exhibition director, about the new direction for the show, and the importance of promoting private-label innovation in France.
"An exhibition has to evolve with its market, and the private-label market has evolved a lot in France," Gillet told us. This year, we wanted in particular to highlight, through this new concept, the co-creation and co-designing of products, as opposed to focusing only on private-label brands.
"After having undertaken a tour of France, visiting the main retailers and exhibitors, we were able to develop MDD Expo into M.A.D.E., with the help of our different partners. M.A.D.E. is open to all distribution channels, as well as to international markets, with a new name that is a lot more understandable internationally than MDD Expo was."
This year's show welcomed around 4,140 buyers to Paris for a two-day exhibition, showcasing the best of new-product innovation.
M.A.D.E. 2018 takes place at Paris Porte de Versailles, Hall 7.1, on 20 and 21 March 2018.
