Germany's Metro Wholesale & Food Specialist AG has changed its name to Metro AG, effective as of 18 August 2017.
This move follows Metro Group's demerger, which was completed last month and divided the business into two independent public companies.
The wholesale business of Metro Cash & Carry, the Real hypermarket chain, the company's delivery services, and the HoReCa.digital online platform will now all operate under Metro AG, while the consumer-electronics division, which includes the MediaMarkt and Saturn brands, started operating as part of Ceconomy AG last week.
'Strong And Focused'
“Two strong and focused companies are starting operations,” Metro Group chairman Olaf Koch said when the demerger was approved in February. “Both are highly dynamic and have the necessary talents to independently achieve sustainable and healthy growth. We have worked hard over the past [few] years to pave the way for this successful transformation.”
Last week, Koch told Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung that he believes the new-look Metro Group will create added value for our customers, employees and shareholders. Koch also told the paper that the group was making an effort to increase the level of theatre in its warehouse operations.
