Mondeléz International has sold its Portuguese biscuit factory in Mem Martins near Sintra to Cerealto, a global food manufacturer specializing in grain based products.
The new owner has committed itself to maintaining all 92 jobs at the plant, as well as all current labour conditions.
The transaction is expected to be complete by July 2016, with Cerealto expected to take control over the factory, its production and workers starting from August 1.
However, it is now expected that the Mem Martins factory will continue to make some Mondeléz products.
Cerealto also produces some private label brands for large retailers and multinationals.
The acquisition of the Mem Martins factory is in line with the international expansion strategy of Cerealto, which in 2013 purchased a baby food manufacturing facility, Nutriceal Foods in Portugal, from Danone.
Cerealto manufactures a wide range of products, including biscuits, breakfast cereals, baby food, bread, pastries, pasta, and gluten free products, among others. It has 14 factories in Spain and operation centers in Portugal, Italy, the UK, Mexico and the US, through which it supplies clients in over 40 countries.
