Organic Food Iberia To Showcase Hundreds Of Sustainable Spanish Wines

When it comes to wine, Spain is an undisputed world leader, and business is booming.

It is the biggest exporter of wine by volume – the third by value – and it also produces over a quarter of the world’s organic wine supply (and that is a conservative estimate).

Spain is an organic wine powerhouse in every respect. Its organic wine producers, including 40+ vineyards, have confirmed exhibiting at Organic Food Iberia on 6 and 7 June at IFEMA, in Madrid.

According to recent research by IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, more than one billion bottles of organic wine (87.5 million cases) will be consumed globally by 2022.

Although the country’s domestic consumption is still low, compared to other nations, its export market – particularly to Germany, the Nordic region, Switzerland, Austria, the Benelux countries and the UK (Brexit aside) – has never been stronger.

Since the early nineties, Spanish lands dedicated to organic wine-growing have increased fivefold, with more than 106,000 hectares now producing some of the world’s best organic and/or biodynamic wines and grapes (up from 16,500 hectares in 2003).

In 2017, Spain boasted 939 eco-wineries (according to SOW, the Spanish Organic Wines association). It’s likely to be well over 1,000 by now.

Spain is home to hundreds of native grape varieties, due to climatic diversity. It offers something that suits the taste and palate of every wine drinker.

For importers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, and the on-trade (international and domestic) looking to source the next wave of versatile new wines for their customers, Organic Wine Iberia is an event that they cannot miss.

The show features include a dedicated Organic Wine Tasting Gallery, a host of international experts sharing their thoughts on market developments in the Organic Wine Theatre, and the prestigious Ecoracimo 2019 awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony will take place on 6 June, and it will be hosted by Miguel Ángel Benito Rodríguez, the CEO of MAB Wine Consulting.

Big Names

Wines from La Rioja, Castilla La Mancha, Andalucía, Murcia, Valencia, the Basque Country, Castilla y León, Granada, Navarra and many other regions will be showcased and available for sampling at the show.

SOW – Spanish Organic Wines, an association launched in 2014, solely to promote the export of wines produced by small and medium-sized organic wineries, is bringing 13 of its members and associates to the event.
