Aldi Süd has announced plans to introduce reusable bread bags as an alternative to disposable paper bags with a plastic film window.
The new washable bags, made of organic cotton, will be available in Aldi Süd outlets from 7 September, and priced at €0.99 each.
Shoppers can use these bags for packing bread, rolls and other loose baked goods hygienically, the retailer added.
'A Reusable Alternative'
Dr Julia Adou, director of corporate responsibility at Aldi Süd, said, “The reusable network for our fruit and vegetables has already become successfully established. Many customers are also looking for a reusable alternative in the baked goods sector.
“We are now meeting this demand with the launch of our new fabric bags. This gives our customers the opportunity to opt for more environmentally friendly packaging.”
The breathable material of the bag keeps baked goods fresh and crispy during transit and also offers a suitable storage option.
The reusable bag comes with a drawstring, which can be used to close it firmly and securely.
Certified Fabric
The fabric used in these bags is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified and meets 'Green Button' requirements.
The Green Button is Germany’s seal for ecologically and socially fair produced textiles.
The German Association for Waste Management (DGAW) expects more than two million tonnes of additional household waste to be generated in 2020, the retailer added.
