Aldi Suisse Introduces Plastic Recycling In Ticino

Aldi Suisse has equipped its stores in the Italian-speaking region of Ticino, Switzerland, with collection points for recycling plastic cartons and bottles.

This follows the positive response to the introduction of the first recycling collection points in eastern Switzerland and the Zurich area in August 2016.

The discounter will be the first major retailer in Switzerland to collect and recycle plastic, with the service set to be introduced in all 185 branches by the end of 2017.

Aldi Suisse is collaborating closely with the Swiss Association for the Recycling of Drinks Cartons. Studies conducted by the association show that 89% of Swiss consumers would be prepared to recycle cartons if suitable collection points were available.

Most of the new containers for collection are located in the area outside of the Aldi Suisse stores. Customers can deposit drink cartons purchased in Aldi stores, as well as those from competing retail outlets. PET bottles will continue to be collected and recycled separately.

A new, modern sorting centre in eastern Switzerland will allow for the proper separation of the materials. The service is completely free of charge for customers.
