Aldi UK has announced plans to roll out private-label concentrated cleaning liquids and reusable spray bottles under the Power Force brand, starting 24 September.
The concentrated cleaning liquids can be used to refill spray bottles up to four times, without compromising on quality, Aldi said.
The move will help the retailer to remove approximately 550 tonnes of single-use plastic annually from its operations by reducing the need for single-use spray bottles.
The range will include six new products including window, shower, kitchen and bathroom concentrates, priced at £1.99. The reusable Power Force bottle will cost 99p.
'New Ways To Reduce Waste'
Managing director of corporate responsibility at Aldi UK and Ireland, Luke Peech, said, “At Aldi, we’re always looking at new ways to reduce waste and especially to remove and replace any unnecessary, single-use plastic.
“Our new concentrated refills will do just that. And, even if only half of our customers opt for them, it will take more than 250 lorries off our roads every year.”
Both the bottle and concentrate refill bottles are fully recyclable, and the concentrated refill solution has been awarded the Leaping Bunny Certification, the retailer said.
The certification ensures that cosmetics and household products are animal friendly.
Aldi has pledged to switch to recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging for all own-brand products by 2022, and aims to halve the amount of plastic packaging it sells by 2025.
