Ahold USA Achieves Ambitious Environmental Goal

In 2011, Ahold's US division set out with the goal to eliminate one billion paper and plastic bags from landfills across the United States.

Last week, the company, which is now part of Ahold Delhaize, has announced that it has achieved this goal through employing better bagging techniques, such as: placing more items per bag; placing items with handles directly into the trolley, and encouraging shoppers to use reusable shopping bags.

To celebrate its accomplishment, Ahold USA’s Sustainable Retailing Team gave out 100 reusable bags to the first 100 customers in its stores last week, as well as presenting one to each Support Office associate.
