UK retailer Asda has announced that it has introduced a new blueberries SKU in a fully-recyclable punnet with a film lid.
The innovative packaging will allow customers to recycle the whole tray along with the lid.
'Easier' Recycling
Own-Brand packaging development manager at Asda, Fiona Dobson, said, “We are continuing to work hard to look at innovative solutions to help our customers on the journey to use less and recycle more, we know it’s something they and our colleagues are passionate about.
“This latest move to help make recycling easier for our customers is another important step on our journey as a retailer to make all our own brand packaging, whatever material, 100% recyclable by 2025”.
Asda also plans to test the packaging on other fresh produce items such as grapes and tomatoes.
The initiative will make recycling easier for customers, the retailer said.
Focus On Sustainability
According to the Asda 1000 survey for July, 94% of customers said that they felt personally responsible for recycling, indicating that sustainability is still a top priority in customers’ minds.
The Asda 1000 is a monthly survey of at least 1,000 customers, aimed at gauging how government policy affects shopping preferences, motivation, attitude, and behaviour.
