Continente Expands 'Savings Pack' Range

Portuguese retailer Continente is expanding its range of savings packs offering large formats at more attractive prices.

According to the supermarket chain, large packs with lower prices per serving allow for savings of up to €27.50 compared to the same products in the standard format.

The 'Pack Poupança' initiative aims to help consumers save money on essential daily items such as food and personal care products.

Ana Alves, private brand commercial director at Sonae MC, added, "We are aware of the phase the country is going through and we maintain our commitment to stand by [our consumers] at all times.

"Private label products play a fundamental role in offering the lowest prices, and the 'Pack Poupança' range is another example of our investment in offering the Portuguese their favourite products, with the best quality and always at the best prices."

The retailer now offers 50 products in large format, including extra virgin olive oil, tuna, pasta, yogurt, coffee capsules, biscuits, sausages, frozen products and napkins.

Recycling Initiative

The retailer also plans to attach the caps of all private-label flat water SKUs, ranging from 33cl bottles to 1.5l bottles and 6l bottles.

According to Continente, the initiative will guarantee the recycling of 50 million plastic caps per year and the reuse of 80 tonnes of plastic annually.

Recently, Continente announced the incorporation of recycled plastic in 25% of its entire range of private-label water brands, allowing it to reduce 400 tonnes of virgin plastics from its operations per year.

In addition to the tonnes of virgin plastic eliminated, the brand has also replaced 50 tonnes of plastic with low recyclability (such as PVC) with other materials that are easier to recycle (such as PET) in its products.

Currently, 70% of the private label SKUs offered by the retailer are already 100% recyclable.
