Packaging and recycling company DS Smith had a successful turn at the 'Oscar de l'Emballage' 2016, the French packaging awards ceremony.
It was awarded the top prize in the Materials Innovation Packaging category, with its Retail-Ready-Packaging Sales Front.
The Sales Front features an elastic strip that springs the items to the front of the shelf when one is removed. The product of two years testing and development, the front helps retailers avoid the 'black hole effect' created by gaps.
It is adapted to primary packaging such as folding cartons, flow wraps, trays or other cylindrical products. It can be manipulated by hand or with mechanised packaging systems.
DS Smith was also nominated for its design of the Nespresso e-commerce pack in the Corrugated Cardboard category.
Made of 100% corrugated board and entirely recyclable, the design was successful due to its ability to convey the brand image while keeping the coffee capsules safe during transport, the company said. Adapted inserts and a new ergonomic design makes co-packing easier, while its easy opening style and re-locking capability guarantee an easier parcel return .
The 61st edition of the annual prize gala was held at the Elysées Biarritz hotel on 14 November, with 330 attendees present. About 100 cases were examined by an expert jury of packaging and conditioning professionals.
The award ceremony is organised by Infopro Digital, the publisher of Emballages Magazine.
