Fruidor To Re-Market Banana As 'Snack'

Fruidor, the French fresh-produce supplier, is to use innovative packaging to re-market the banana as a 'snack'.

The notion is that bananas will have packaging not dissimilar to that of confectionery, and will be placed in supermarkets where snack foods are on display. It follows a move by the American company Del Monte, which now has its bananas on sale in gas stations in the United States.

Audrey Ktourza of Fruidor, who is in charge of marketing the undertaking, said that the packaging, which emphasises the 'freshness' of the fruit, "allows the bananas to be preserved for about an extra five days". The bananas will retail between €1 and €1.20.

Aside from French bananas, Fruidor sells bananas from Martinique and Guadeloupe.
