Kraft Heinz has invested £30 million into its production facility near Wigan in the UK in an attempt to expand production of its canned food products on site.
According to news portal FoodBev, the ketchup giant will upgrade its packaging and filling capabilities, increasing production for its canned baked beans, soups, spaghetti and its Snap Pots lines.
Increased Production
Kraft Heinz hopes to improve to a high-speed production line that can fill 1,200 cans a minute, in addition to a new can packaging line and a weigh filling line, according to FoodBev.
The company's site in Wigan is one of the larger facilities in Europe, already capable of producing over 380,000 tonnes of products every year.
The site already saw an investment from the company into its can-making facilities, with over £113 million spent on the site in Kitts Green since Heinz and Kraft Foods merged three years ago.
“[This investment ]will give us further growth potential of 5.5 million units and allow us to produce almost 80 million Snap Pots a year,” said Stuart Lawson, managing director of the facility. “The new owners are more receptive than the legacy business to invest in modernising the site.”
Kraft Heinz recently announced that it aims to make 100% of its packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable across the globe by 2025.
