Packaging company DS Smith has designed a new product which will help Irish electrical manufacturing company Schneider Electric reduce packaging waste.
Using its PackRight philosophy, which encourages collaboration with the client to create a tailored product, DS Smith helped the company diminish waste by printing its paper instruction sheets directly onto the cardboard packaging, which also decreased packaging costs.
The packaging had to fulfil two requirements: protecting valuable electrical products, and providing necessary technical operating information.
Schneider Electric has a 'firm focus' on lowering carbon emissions and reducing water consumption and waste.
"Reducing waste is a big priority for Schneider Electric across the globe. Our commitment to the environment mirrors the fact we develop connected technologies and solutions to manage energy and process in ways that are safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable", commented Miroslav Bilek, the company's packaging commodity buyer.
Gustaf von Segebaden, business unit director for the electronic market at DS Smith, added, "A seemingly small change like printing instructions on the pack rather than on a separate document can actually make a huge difference when applied to the scale of Schneider Electric’s production."
