Packaging and paper manufacturer Mondi has developed a new packaging format for transporting chilled goods.
The product, called the 'BCoolBox', is a 100% recyclable and reliable packaging solution to keep perishable food cool while in transit.
Online Delivery
The product has been developed to meet the demand for increased chilled transport solutions, following a surge in online grocery, the company said.
The 'BCoolBox' is designed with corrugated packaging, with thermo-insulation keeping the food chilled below 7° celsius for up to 24 hours, without the need for a refrigerated truck.
According to Mondi, this means food can stay fresh from the store to the consumer or pick-up station, and offers online retailers the opportunity to expand their geographical reach for deliveries.
Testing
Sofia Backstrom, product innovation manager for e-commerce at Mondi, said the group is "proud to introduce a reliable solution that is proven to handle all the challenges that online food retailers face."
That particular design was chosen as it means "cooling trucks are no longer needed to transport food and we can play our part in reducing food waste," Backstrom added.
Elsewhere, Tarik Aniba, sales and marketing director for corrugated solutions at Mondi, said the group hopes to focus on creating "packaging for the e-commerce sector that is sustainable by design."
