Nestlé Vietnam and La Vie – Nestlé Waters have entered into a partnership with seven other companies to set up PRO Vietnam (Packaging Recycling Organisation Vietnam).
The not-for-profit coalition aims to support the growth of a strong, resilient packaging collection and recycling ecosystem in the country.
The other founding members of PRO Vietnam include Coca-Cola Vietnam, FrieslandCampina, NutiFood, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, Tetra Pak Vietnam, TH Group, and URC Vietnam.
'Accessible And Sustainable'
Managing director of Nestlé Vietnam, Ganesan Ampalavanar, said, "We are pleased to be joining the coalition, which is recognised by the government of Vietnam, to drive [the] circular economy and make [the] recycling of packaging more accessible and sustainable."
"Nestlé has a longer-term ambition to stop plastic leakage into the environment. Our involvement in PRO Vietnam will further accelerate our efforts to realize this ambition," he added.
Focus Areas
In order to achieve its goals, PRO Vietnam will focus on three areas.
These include creating awareness about recycling and segregation among consumers, strengthening the existing packaging collection ecosystem, and supporting recycling programmes of recyclers.
It will also create jobs and improve the livelihood of individuals and businesses working on post-consumer packaging.
