In the category of beverages, a wooden wine label has won the most prestigious packaging award given in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
A novelty of Label Design and Ludwig Winery, both based in the Czech Republic, has won the Obal Roku (Packaging of the Year) competition, organised by Czech Packaging Institute SYBA.
In an effort to introduce unconventional materials in packaging, Prague, Czech Republic-based Label Design a.s., has come up with a wooden wine label, made of a natural, very thin veneer in a cherry decor. According to SYBA, the result gives the impression of antiquity and use of original procedures.
The exclusivity is enhanced by cork soaked with a sealing wax and stamped with a seal. In total, 1972 bottles of wine have been produced, each with a number on the reverse label. The wines include a cuvée Cabernet Moravia and a 2011 Late Harvest Cabernet Sauvignon from the Slovácko sub-region.
In addition to their own wines from the Velké Pavlovice region and Slovakian wineries, Ludwig Vinery also supply wines from France, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, South Africa, USA, Chile, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand.
SYBA has been organising the Obal Roku packaging competition since 1990. Obal Roku is recognised by Worldstar Packaging Awards.
