Dutch retailer Plus has introduced 100% recyclable packaging for chicken, meat, and fish.
The move is a part of the retailer's collaboration with Plastic Whale - a plastic fishing company that aims to make the world's waters plastic free.
Commenting on the partnership, Marius Smit, founder of Plastic Whale, said, “We are extremely proud of the collaboration with Plus. Our motto is' Stop Talking. Let's start doing.'
"It is not for nothing that Plus has been named Most Responsible Supermarket in the Netherlands for the fifth year in a row. Together with Plus and its suppliers, we can really take major steps to drastically reduce the impact of plastic on the environment."
Other Initiatives
Plastic Whale has also built a sloop out of recycled plastic that has been dubbed the 'Plus Sloop'.
Plus officials and suppliers went plastic fishing in the sloop to gain a first-hand experience of plastic pollution in water bodies.
Presently, Plastic Whale has a fleet of ten sloops that are made of plastic fished out from the oceans.
By 2025, Plus aims to use 20% less packaging and make its packaging materials 95% recyclable.
