Reusable packaging for the transportation of seafood products is one way food producers operating in this category can become greener in a big way.
Plastic crates for fish transportation – compared to cardboard – cuts down on carbon emissions, which benefits the environment, and the ethical nature of a producer’s products.
PPS Equipment supply, collect and hygienically wash a wide range of reusable packaging for fresh fish.
Its own range of fish boxes are designed for the modern, chilled supply chain and provide a safe and integrated handling system to support logistics, whilst protecting the freshness and quality of the catch, it says.
PPS says that producers can also benefit from reduced packaging waste, making systems more environmentally friendly, as well as a significant cost saving over other systems.
With demand for quality fish and seafood products on the rise, Gemma Harling of PPS Equipment, says that in terms of packaging, it is very important to reduce waste.
“One-trip polystyrene boxes used for the transportation of fresh fish always ends up as a waste product at the other end. Reusable packaging obviously solves this waste issue as well as reducing carbon emissions and cost.”
The take up of reusable packaging has, of course, impressed, which is why PPS supply it, she explained to ESM.
“We currently live in an increasingly greener economy; there has been a lot of focus on businesses decreasing their carbon footprint and become more environmentally ethical, Hardling said.
