Germany's Rewe Group has announced that its private-label soap and shower gel brand Today is now available in packaging made of 100% recycled materials.
The products will be available in the new packaging in approximately 5,800 Rewe and Penny stores, the retailer said.
The use of recycled plastics will help the retailer to reduce 6,400 tonnes of primary plastic from its operations every year.
Sustainable Material
As a founding member of the 'Recyclate Initiative', Rewe has pledged to recycle plastics and develop sustainable material cycles to optimise the use of plastics.
Since 2017, Rewe and Penny have recycled plastic bottles used for detergents, cleansers and cleaning products to packaging that comprises 100% recyclate.
In September of last year, Rewe Group introduced mineral water bottles made of 100% recycled plastic.
It has also successfully used recycled plastic for deep-frozen carrier bags, convenience food and delicatessen packaging, trash bags, and paint buckets.
