Smurfit Kappa has designed a paper-based, sustainable packaging solution for delivering eggs ordered through online channels in Brazil.
The packaging company collaborated with Granja Mantiqueira, a Latin American poultry farming company, to develop a new packaging solution that ensures eggs are delivered without any damage.
Granja Mantiqueira will launch an ‘Egg Club’ in Brazil where customers can order eggs online for home delivery.
Smurfit Kappa designed the new packaging with the help of its eSmart service.
'Data-Driven Approach'
CEO of Smurfit Kappa Brazil, Manuel Alcalá, explained, "The fragile nature of eggs was a key factor in this project. We took a data-driven approach and used our eSmart service tools to design a fit-for-purpose and attractive packaging solution.
“We reviewed all aspects of Mantiquiera’s supply chain to ensure that all products were delivered in perfect condition with no damage or breakages," he added.
'Attractive Design'
The packaging is 'attractively designed' to promote the Egg Club as well as the Mantiquiera brand, Smurfit Kappa said in its statement.
It is styled like a briefcase with handles, and the design keeps the eggs fresh and safe during transit.
Sustainable
It is made of paper-based material that is 100% recyclable, biodegradable and renewable.
Additionally, Smurfit Kappa optimised the design for e-commerce use to ensure faster and efficient delivery of eggs.
Leandro Pinto, the founding partner of the Mantiquiera Group, said, "We identified a big interest for this idea of [delivering] eggs at home, so we decided to offer an additional channel to consumers who are looking for a more practical solution for their daily lives."
