Smurfit Kappa won three out of nine categories at the Obal Roku Awards. The achievements recognised by the awards committee pertain to innovation and new ideas and technologies throughout the Czech packaging market.
A Smurfit Kappa Žebrák design won the Electronic and Appliance category for its high-quality audio device, which provides high-level shielding for long-distance shipments.
The new mono-material packaging aims to reduce waste by replacing foam and plastic wrapping.
The product works by housing a small corrugated insert in the centre of the box, with protection from all sides, meaning that it passes all drop tests successfully.
The second accolade awarded to Smurfit Kappa was for its design of protective packaging for headlights, in the Automotive and Transport category.
The design uses an inside-out technology so it can be used for both left and right lights, impressing the committee by being able to protect heavy lights while using the same amount of packaging for lighter versions.
The final award received was for Smurfit Kappa's point-of-sale-display, a rotating promotional model called Rondel. The display can incorporate branding and logos on the corrugated material, turning at one revolution per minute.
Georg D. Fischer, CEO of Corrugated Central Europe, said, “I'm really proud of the fact that our packaging solutions are solving everyday problems and adding real value, which is recognised not only by our customers, but also by an independent jury of packaging experts."
