Seven startups have presented sustainable packaging concepts to Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd, following a campaign in association with accelerator TechFounders.
In January, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd announced their cooperation with TechFounders in order to promote sustainable solutions and innovations together with the startups.
The discounters received 80 applications in total. Seven startups have gone on to present their concepts to the retailers, with two or three going on to work with the retailer going forward.
Diverse Ideas
Startup concepts include edible straws made from apple fibers as well as intelligent waste separation systems, environmentally friendly shopping bag, and recyclable packaging for drugstore items.
"On the way to less packaging, we rely on the impulses of young founders as part of our Aldi packaging mission. [...] We are therefore looking forward to the upcoming funding program and further cooperation with the winners", said Kristina Bell, group buying director, Aldi Süd.
This program is part of Aldi's packaging mission 'Vermeiden. Wiederverwenden. Recyceln' (Reduce. Reuse. Recycle).
