Tetra Pak Launches Enhanced 'Standardization Unit'

Packaging firm Tetra Pak has launched an enhanced version of its Tetra Pak Standardization unit, which increases the precision of the standardization process in the dairy industry.

Standardization is the process by which the fat in milk is first removed, and then added back at a later stage, to achieve a specific and consistent fat content in dairy products.

The modified standardization unit is compatible with an automatic, in-line production process and has already proved its worth in the production line of Arla Foods' processing plant in Palmers Green, in London.

Christian Odgaard, regional project manager at Arla Foods, explained, "For us, the big money is in cream. To give cream away is an absolute no-no. We were quickly impressed with the reliability and precision of the Tetra Pak standardization unit since its installation last October. The difference in higher accuracy is obvious – a lot of cream is coming back into our tank."

The Tetra Pak Standardization unit has a capacity of 75,000 litres per hour and can process a wide variety of dairy products. It is now available to customers worldwide.
