Walmart China has now reopened following the mislabelling of pork in stores there. Thirteen stores were forced to close in Chongqing last month as a result of the incorrect labelling.
It followed a customer complaint, which stated that the organic pork she had purchased at 43 per cent higher cost than regular meat, was actually the same as the regular cheaper pork on sale in Walmart stores. Officials in Chongqing closed Walmart’s 13 stores in central China area due to the violation of for food standards.
The penalty was the toughest that has ever been imposed on a foreign retailer in the country. (3 Nov)
