Wenlock Spring Unveils Innovative New Lighter Glass Bottle

Wenlock Spring has teamed up with packaging specialist, Rawlings, to develop what the drinks firm claim is the UK's lightest weight glass bottle for the hospitality sector.

The move comes as Wenlock Spring ooks for new ways to reduce its carbon footprint to benefit the environment.

Wenlock Spring also now uses less glass to make the same amount of bottles.

As well as helping its environmental policies, the lightweight glass comes with other benefits too, it states - for every lightweight bottle that is sold, a donation is being made by the company to global charity WaterAid.

This, says Wenlock Spring, will help people in crisis in less developed countries who do not have access to clean running water and safe sanitation.

Up until the end of September, Wenlock Spring had donated in excess of £18,000 to WaterAid and helped to change 1,200 lives.

The drinks firm highlighted the benefits of the new lighter bottle for its customers as less weight in their glass disposal, and supporting it to contribute to the sustainability of the environment - the glass being 100 per cent recyclable with no loss of quality.

Speaking on the innovative glass packaging, Matthew Orme, director of Wenlock Spring, said: "Through technical innovation, packaging specialist Rawlings have been able to reduce the weight of the previous glass bottle - helping us reduce our carbon footprint. For our customers selecting lightweight glass - they have less glass weight to dispose of and are too making a positive environmental impact."

Steve Land, managing director of independent drinks wholesaler Swallow, said: "The reduction in weight helps us in ways that you would not initially consider - and means that we have something to then communicate to our customers."

Working together with the same overall aims, the "continual steps" being taken at Wenlock Spring regarding their environmental approach helps its business too, he said.
