The annual PLMA Roundtable Conference kicked off in Dublin, Ireland, on Wednesday, playing host to a series of expert speakers who will identify the latest trends in both the private-label sector and the wider retail industry.
The theme of this year's event is 'Where is private label going?', commencing with an introduction by Tara McCarthy, the CEO of Bord Bia, the Irish food board.
This will be followed by a look at 'Retailing and Private Label in Ireland' by David Berry, country manager at Kantar Worldpanel, and a store tour, taking in some of the premier retail outlets around Ireland's capital.
Thursday 22 February sees a packed schedule of speakers, commencing with Michael Jary, partner at OC&C Strategy Consultants ('Industry in Transition: What is happening to Retailing?'), and Judith Kolenburg, managing editor of PLMALive.EU ('Industry in Transition: What is happening to Private-Label Manufacturers?'), in the morning session.
Before lunch, Edgar Elzerman, retail consultant, ECI, will host a panel discussion – 'Finding Answers, Finding Solutions' – while the afternoon session focuses on the future, with presentations by Julien Miniconi, director, Wavestone ('Meet Alexa and Siri, Voices from your Future'), and David Jago, director of innovation and insight at Mintel ('New Product Trends').
The Roundtable is held annually in late February, with Dublin chosen as the setting for this year's event because it boasts 'a microcosm of retailing trends throughout Europe', with local players such as Dunnes Stores and SuperValu battling against international powerhouses including Aldi and Lidl.
