Dutch-based supermarket chain Albert Heijn has created an online platform that allows customers view the nutritional values of its private label products, including sugar, salt, fibre, protein, saturated fat, calories, and carbohydrate content.
The 'Mijn Voedingswaarden' ('My Nutritional Value’) online tool can also be used to find healthier alternatives based on dietary needs. A customer looking to consume less sugar, for example, can search for options that fit their needs, for example.
The online tool was created in collaboration with the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Promoting Healthier Eating
This new tool is the latest step that Albert Heijn has taken in promoting healthy food options. Other efforts taken on by the company include introducing a new range of sugar-free sauces, as well as creating labels for its own brand products that detail more information on sugar and salt content.
Albert Heijn last month announced its goal of removing the equivalent of one billion sugar lumps from its products by 2020. The brand has gradually been removing sugar from its products and testing consumer response throughout this process.
