Amazon has launched its first seven private label clothing lines, which cater to men, women and children.
These are four female-clothing lines – James & Erin, North Eleven, Lark & Ro, and Society New York; two male-clothing lines – Franklin & Freeman (shoes only) and Franklin Tailored; and Scout + Ro, a children’s clothing line.
FastCompany.com suggests that the decision will allow the online giant to surpass Macy’s to become the US’s largest apparel distributer.
Typically, the clientele of Amazon’s clothing section would be interested in purchasing A-brands at desirable prices. The company’s private label offering appears to be a middle ground between high-street brands and discounter offers.
Media speculation has suggested that Frances Russell, who up until last year was the Marks & Spencer director of women’s clothing, will run Amazon’s private label clothing division.
