Asda's La Moneda Reserva Malbec, from Central Chile, was awarded this year's Best in Show in the 'Single-Varietal Red Under £15' category at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
The red-wine varietal, priced at £4.37, was selected during a blind tasting by 240 experts to be named the best in the world in its category. The budget Malbec was the winner over 16,000 other entries, with the judges praising its "freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice" flavours, reports The Telegraph.
The wine-buying manager at Asda, Ed Betts, told the paper that the retailer was expecting a surge in sales of La Moneda Reserva this summer, stating that the Malbec "is the perfect example of how Asda is able to offer shoppers exceptional quality at low prices".
