UK supermarket chain Asda has launched vegan mince pies ahead of the Christmas season.
The retailer says that it is the first supermarket in the country to create mince pies that are free from animal ingredients and carry the Vegan Trademark.
“This festive season, Asda is proud to announce we now offer mince pies that are suitable for vegans and have been accredited by the Vegan Society," said Ciara Loker, bakery product developer at Asda.
“At Asda, we are committed to innovation and developing the best quality products that can be enjoyed by everyone."
The festive treats are now available in Asda stores, at a price of £0.89 for a box of six.
Christmas Treats
Asda predicts that around 18 million vegan mince pies will be consumed in the UK this Christmas, however, this is only part of the retailer's festive offering.
The supermarket chain is selling a wide range of private label mince pies, including crumble mince pies, christmas tree puff pastry mince pies, mini mince pies, extra special mince pies, iced mince pies, and the new vegan-friendly variety.
