Auchan Retail has announced that it will be partnering with the French association Origine France in a bid to offer more transparency about the origin of its products and their value to local producers.
Auchan will be the first retailer in France to offer the certification on its range of private-label products.
After announcing its decision to roll out a range of pesticide-free fruit and veg by 2020, Auchan is doubling its commitment to promote healthy and local produce. Created in 2011, the Origine France certification is designed to have clear and strict rules regarding 'Made in France' products.
To use Origine France, Auchan Retail has to commit to two conditions: firstly, it has to ensure that 50%-100% of the unit cost of production is acquired in France; secondly, the entire transformation process has to take place in France.
According to Auchan, the new partnership will be beneficial for both consumers and businesses.
For consumers, it allows them to seek out local produce and producers, and make an enlightened choice. For businesses, Origine France gives them a way to add value to local operations and consider the relocation of operations undertaken abroad.
