Austria's Hofer Showcases GMO-Free Range

To commemorate the 'Gentechnik-freien Wochen' (GMO-Free Weeks), taking place from 6 to 17 June, Austrian retailer Hofer has placed additional focus on its sustainable, GMO-free products.

Hofer, a sister retailer to Germany's Aldi Süd, is showcasing GMO-free products such as organic crispbread, grilled meat, chicken fillets, cottage cheese and more.

In addition to the current promotion, Hofer is expanding its range of products bearing the 'Arge' GMO-free logo, Europe’s first and most successful platform for the production, labelling and control of GMO-free food.

GMO-Free History

Austria has been considered a leader in GMO-free production throughout Europe for 20 years. Hofer made its first contribution in 2009, when it promoted the GMO-free feeding of dairy cows. This move led to a widespread move towards GMO-free milk production in Austria.

Hofer also launched projects like the animal-welfare initiative 'FairHof' and 'Project 2020' to focus intensively on domestic agriculture, products and customers.

With its latest move, Hofer is seeking to meet its customers' needs, with 81% considering GMO-free production to be very important, according to a recent survey.

Zurück zum Ursprung

Under the brand 'Zurück zum Ursprung', which was established as early as 2006, Hofer offers more than 400 sustainable, organic products. The 'Zurück zum Ursprung' ('Back to the Source') range is based on a number of basic values: environmental protection, GMO-free products, animal welfare, high-quality food, transparency, and fairness towards farmers and consumers.

Elsewhere, Hofer is actively promoting climate protection through various measures, and it has been operating as 100% CO2-neutral since January 2016. The company was recently awarded the Energy Globe World Award for its environmental initiatives.
