UK foods manufacturer Bakkavor Group announced that it is considering closing its Welcome Foods site in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, affecting 300 employees.
An article in the Nottingham Post reported that the company had entered into a 45-day consultation period with employees of the facility, which 'is believed to have focused mainly on flavourings and sauces.'
A Bakkavor spokesperson told the publication, "For some time now Welcome Foods has been impacted by difficult trading conditions.
"The group has explored a number of different options to sustain the business but has now concluded Welcome Foods is no longer commercially viable."
"Therefore our proposal is to cease operations at Welcome Foods and transfer production to other Bakkavor sites which have similar product synergies."
The London-based private label supplier currently has a staff of 18,000 worldwide, across 43 locations. It supplies own-brand products to retailers such as Waitrose, Morrisons, and Tesco.
