Carrefour Belgium has unveiled new additions to its Carrefour BIO Fairtrade confectionery range, extending the retailer’s range of own-brand fair-trade products to 113 SKUs.
Since April 2017, all the cocoa used in Carrefour’s own-brand pastries has been labelled Fairtrade, and now the retailer has developed its first range of dedicated Carrefour BIO pastries.
Fairtrade Week
The retailer launched the products to coincide with this year’s Fairtrade Week, which runs from October 3 to 13, and aims to raise awareness of the importance of guaranteeing a fair price per tonne of cocoa.
In a statement, Carrefour said that it was seeking to offer quality products that are both ‘respectful of the planet as well as respectful of producers’.
As well as confectionery products, all coffee in the Carrefour Sélection range is Fairtrade, while the retailer also offers a Carrefour BIO coffee selection, as well as Fairtrade bananas and Fairtrade jam – it is the only Belgian retailer to offer a Fairtrade product in the jam category.
In August, Carrefour said that it was increasing the range of local products it offers via its online channels, ensuring some 750 local operators gain wider access to the market.
