Carrefour Poland has committed to reducing the weight of its private-label packaging – including reducing the amount of plastic therein – by 5% by 2022.
The retailer has already reduced the weight for its popular Crumbies private-label breakfast products, resulting in a total reduction in weight over one year of three quarters of a tonne.
In January, the retailer reported that it would turn its attention to reducing the packaging of another product group.
Environmental Boost
Carrefour Poland also said that it is taking other steps to improve the environmental credentials of its own-brand products, increasing the number of seafood products that are MSC certified, and also introducing products certified with the FSC mark, which indicates that they have been developed in accordance with responsible forest management principles.
The retailer is also a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) group, aimed at promoting responsible palm oil cultivation.
It recently introduced the Jakość z Natury Carrefour (Quality from Nature Carrefour) range, which is developed in cooperation with farmers, growers and producers using sustainable agricultural methods.
