French chocolate giant Cémoi has bought US confectioner Chris Candies.
The US manufacturer primarily produces private label chocolate products, but also premium-branded SKUs with a particular emphasis on vegan, gluten-free, fair-trade and organic produce.
Cémoi is the largest chocolate company in France and already operates a subsidiary in the US, Cémoi Inc., which yielded a turnover of $12 million in 2016. This acquisition will allow Cémoi to boost its North American presence.
French trade magazine LSA suggests Cémoi is also carrying out the takeover in order to impose itself on the private label chocolate segment.
The French company recorded a turnover for 2016 of €820 million, and now operates in more than 50 countries.
